Like I said, it's just a switch and does that quite well. Totally plug and play with no software install or setup. They are transparent in that I never think about them and they never need any kind of service or adjustment. It's small enough not to get in the way. It works, it shares connection between computers. I have 2 and both work exactly the same. It doesn't get too warm so stacking hasn't been a problem.
Now, there isn't much that sets this switch apart from the rest of the crowd, but it is rather aesthetically pleasing, even if it might get tucked in a corner with a bunch of multicolored cables. 5 ports, which is just enough for me, and the ever-amazing 10/100/1000 megabit speeds it provides. People with block or horizontal strips might want to stray away or find another adapter.Overall, I'm very happy with this switch, I haven't a single problem with it since I installed it, even with all the ports lit up all the time. I've bought a few new computers lately, and all of them included Wireless-N so it was time for an upgrade for my wireless router. And since not all my computers are wireless - well, it was time to make the wired network at least as fast as the wireless. So, I came upon the D-Link DGS-2205. The horizontal power adapter is a very welcome addition to my overcrowded power strips, keeping it out of the way of the outer outlets by shifting the bulk to the side, which makes it very compatible with wall outlets and vertical power strips.
You purchased this item on August 30, 2008.It went kaput today, no lightning storms or anything, the power light is on, but none of the ports will read Ethernet cables, nor will they light up when inserted on a network. This is a piece of junk if it goes out so quickly, I won't be buying a D-Link again any time soon. I bought this device some time ago:Instant Order Update for Mike. I'm thinking next time buy something a little higher end that will last more than 18 months.
Just plugged into my router and added all 3 DVRs to the network. Easy set up process. No idea if the green is proven, but seemed like a reasonable extra feature.
The good thing about these switches for me is that when the power goes out they will reset themselves, where the Linksys had to be reset by hand after the power came back up. They also are better looking and sturdy. I replaced all my Linksys switches for the business with these D-Link switches. A real pain when you had 8 switches to do in the office.
